world wide web
The appeal & idea of the small web
is to rid oneself of the influence of Big Tech and the contraints of social media. While this can truly be exhilarating, it does make connecting with like-minded people a bit more difficult.
One way to go about it is using search engines like Marginalia and Wiby or link directories like Indie Web Directory, another is to join webrings and maintain a links page on your own website.
And please, provide an easy way to get in contact with you. The small web
isn't synonymous with Neocities, so not everyone can leave a message on your profile. And not everyone wants to join Discord, which is, after all, by definition social media. I don't want to register with GitHub just so that I can submit a pull request. I'd rather not post patches to your mailing list. 😔
So without further ado, I present to you my travel guide for the World Wide Web!

webrings
A webring is a circular collection of websites which can be navigated to from each individual member's website, making it easy to find other websites fitting the theme of the webring.
web cliques
A web clique in general is a virtual gathering place with a theme and rules for joining and they come in many varieties.
Text cliques for example serve as a quirky way to express your fancy & fondness in certain things. They usually link back to the main clique website, which keeps a list of members.
Some cliques have an interactive element, like creating pixel art. Members' pixel art is meant to be collected and displayed on your own website with a link back to the original creator.
Fanlistings are also a type of clique. They're a listing of fans of a subject, like a TV show, actor, or musician. A website isn't required to join.
hall of rock
Inspired by personalised guitars being rocked on stage and in garages, Hall of Rock is a pixel club for you to showcase yourself through your own! From sticker-bombed to custom-made, creativity knows no bounds. Rock on!
my guitar:
My guitar is an homage to John Lennon's Gibson J-160E, which Beatles' manager Brian Epstein purchased for him at Rushworth's Music House in Liverpool in 1962.

pantson color club
The PANTSON COLOR CLUB is a pixel club for everyone who is obsessed with colour and only vaguely resembles a well known colour institute.
my colour cards:
My colour cards are inspired by - who would've thought! - The Beatles' albums & Magical Mystery Tour as well as by John Lennon's album Plastic Ono Band.
Do you want to trade colours with me? Just send me an e-mail or leave a message in the guestbook!
collected colour cards:
eau de parfum parlour
Eau de Parfum Parlour is the most elegant scented shop among the pixel clubs, offering a wide variety of perfumes and colognes to suit all tastes.
my flacon:
My flacon is inspired by Estée Lauder's Youth Dew, which was created by Josephine Catapano and launched originally as a bath oil in 1953. Soon women started wearing it as a fragrance - since it was a bath oil, not perfume, women felt free to enjoy and wear it daily. The scent itself is truly legendary and has been called one of the sexiest fragrances ever created.
collected flacons:
afternoon tea
You're invited to Afternoon Tea where folks create their own unique teacup design. This pixel club is a tribute to Teahouse MB, a kawaii pixel art forum that no longer exists.
my teacup:
My tea coffee cup is reminiscent of the infamous Dental Experience
where in spring of 1965 Dr. Riley served Cynthia & John Lennon as well as George Harrison & Pattie Boyd coffee into each of which was dropped a sugar cube impregnated with a dose of LSD.

personal websites
a creative project as well as a showcase of my work (such as art, playlists, and so on), and all my blathering. You can also find very helpful code snippets to make life on the small web even more fun.

where I showcase things I’ve made and stuff I think about, as well as some of the games I play. The site itself isn't that old but Bekah has been around the internet for a long time therefore TheFrugalGamer.net is both a reminiscence of the old days and a multifarious compilation of resources & fun things.
is my earnest attempt at creating an online space that feels like home. I'm trying to figure out what having an internet presence looks like without social media. Alyce states that she isn't a coder but her web design skills are fantastic!
an exercise in documentation / creativity / sharing / having fun online / ??? - it is a personal space, a digital scrapbook, and an ever-evolving labyrinth. And it has an incredibly creative design, I might add.
precipiceis a personal website with no central theme to the aesthetics or a single layout or theme; as a means of self-expression the website is a kaleidoscopic collection of loose pages, a collage of her interests and fancies across time.
a treasure chest of memories that, upon retrospection in the future, will allow me to revisit the moments that slowly molded me as a person, and all the lovely things that I tried to surround myself with.
